Both talent and inventiveness are the driving forces behind this exhibition, where brilliant ideas and ingenious prototypes are key. By combining form and technology in different ways, designers reinvent the bike time and again. The result is a photo finish of design, exquisite craftsmanship and industry. The exhibition showcases contemporary models, such as the electric bike ‘M.A.S.S.’ by Philippe Starck, as well as prototypes and experiments with unusual materials and functions. For example, the bendable bike of young British designer, Kevin Scott, is brought to Ghent for the occasion. The importance of bike accessories cannot be underestimated either. For example, the magnetic bicycle light ‘iFlash One’, designed by the Danish studio Kibisi or the ‘Hövding’ airbag helmets bring out the best in the aluminum steed.

Designing Sound Objects is the first international exhibition on the relationship between design and sound. Designing Sound Objects is an exclusive journey among products, installations and performances, featuring great international designers whose research focuses on sound – also the source of inspiration for their artistic creations. An original way to describe the other side of design: not only beauty and usefulness but – especially in recent times – its appeal to the senses. Loudspeakers by great past and present names as Castiglioni, Zanuso and Starck will feature in the exhibition and Kef Muon loudspeakers by Ross Lovegrove will be presented in Italy for the first time. Also on display innovative and experimental musical instruments as AirPiano by Omer Yosha, everyday objects as the kettle by Sapper for Alessi, and the original personalized door bells by Munari and Mosconi at the exhibition “Invece del campanello” (Instead of a door bell). Besides, artistic installations by Ferreri, Quiet ensemble and Simma, and new ideas by young international talents working on sound, noise and silence in an exceptionally new way.

The Swiss artist Zimoun occupied the entire outer space with immersive sound installation, and inside you can listen to videos of two other sound works. Using simple and functional components, Zimoun has built sound installations architectural minimal systems prepared and implemented through everyday materials that explore mechanical rhythms. The elegant sound sculptures combine visual elements, space and sound works in complex and simple at the same time that animate the space with the tension between the minimalism of their structure and the chaos of life.
